In 2012, Robert Schubert and his team set about sustainably growing goodness by sowing the seeds that would sprout into bountiful, fresh and delicious veggies.

Robert had heard that veteran organic vegetable growers Chip and Susan Planck were selling their storied Wheatland Vegetable Farms.
Having searched long and hard for good agricultural land near Washington, D.C., Schubert seized on the opportunity to purchase 10 of the Planck’s acres. With starts from neighboring greenhouses, Robert and his field staff began planting bed after bed of hakurei turnips, onions, mixed lettuce, peppers, squash and, of course, heirloom tomatoes, which are an enduring legacy of Wheatland.
Lydia’s Fields quickly established a reputation for high quality, fresh, delicious, sustainably grown vegetables. (The farm uses organic methods to grow its figs, herbs, and vegetables but is not USDA certified organic.)
